By 2050, the world needs to produce 60% more food to meet the rising global demand. We believe that innovation and technology is the key to achieving a food secure future.
For the Tech4Farmers Asia Challenge 2.0, we are looking for applicants that are transforming the lives of farmers through new technology and innovative practices in South and Southeast Asia’s emerging markets with a focus on Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Nepal. In addition, we are looking for enterprises that match market driven approaches with cutting edge business models and technology. Please note that we will only accept enterprises that have a working prototype or minimum viable product that can benefit from R&D testing as well as business and marketing services.
We will assess the challenge entries against the following criteria
SUBMISSIONS AND AWARDS
Unlike many challenges, the Tech4Farmers Asia Challenge 2.0 does not offer a cash prize. Challenge 2.0 Awards sponsored by the USAID Feed the Future Asia Innovative Farmers Project include cost-free product testing led by Kasetsart University's R&D Department as well as project-supported business services and end-market analysis to help the winning entrepreneurs grow the market for their innovations.
DEADLINE TO APPLY - All applications are due by August 9, 2017.
Round 1: Application Verification
As a first step, participants must submit an online application by completing the online form. Only complete applications submitted in English will be reviewed and only successful applicants will be invited to pitch at the TECH4FARMERS ASIA CHALLENGE 2.0 event in Bangkok Thailand on September 13, 2017. All complete applications will be posted to the Challenge website in order to promote your approach to stakeholders and ensure transparency throughout the competition.
Round 2: Pitch at TECH4FARMERS ASIA 2.0 CHALLENGE event in Bangkok
Each entrepreneur will have about 3-5 minutes to make their pitch followed by 7-5 minutes for questions from the judging panel and audience. The top 5 pitches will receive free testing at Kasetsart University and business planning services. The audience will also vote for their favorite pitch which will receive a TBD prize.
Round 3: Product Testing led by Kasetsart University and/or other business services assistance
Technical assistance under each award will begin in October 2017 and must conclude by June 30, 2018.
Round 4: Continued support after Testing
Depending on the final analysis from the Kasetsart R&D team, future support may be considered to further grow and foster the social impact of your enterprise.
